5. What Course of Action I Would Suggest the Company to Take?

I would suggest Amazon work more closely with employees in the warehouses. Although their current services make a positive impact on their customers it's beginning to make a hole in their company and creating division between the company and employees.

Their prime subscription has made it easy to get more items faster and gives access to different services and exclusive content. Nevertheless, employees work non-stop to fulfill the high volume of orders, and yet they are being closely monitored and expected to work at an unreasonable pace. As a result, many have reported injuries while on the job and feel disrespected when supervisors closely monitor them and even time their bathroom breaks.

I propose that Amazon acknowledge that its employees are valuable and deserve the right to be heard. Although they have made it very clear that they don’t want employees to unionize it's important to understand what they need. They are convinced that as a company they have their best to properly compensate their employees. Unfortunately, as time progresses compensation is not being matched. As the company continues to expand there is more to deliver and much more customers demand to meet.

Amazon work on improving its communication. A possible solution could be to have someone from the HR department take a closer look at the working environments and instead of talking only to managers in the warehouse, they could talk to more employees and get their points of view. The employees could help provide much better feedback and options to improve the situation. The company can also propose to make changes to the compensation formula and make needed adjustments that reflect the current economy and their employee’s needs.

I believe that it's important everyone is properly compensated and provided with adequate benefits like paid time off. In the end, we are all human and we need time to rest and reset our minds after a long time of working. Aside from having sick days sometimes we need a mental health day and it would be helpful to have these days paid. It can boost morale and improve overall productivity.

Some of the reasoning behind these approaches relate to the material we went over during our lectures. I think about the different ethical frameworks like virtue, a company’s virtue is reflected by its behaviors. Amazon could focus on developing better practices to continue growing as a company and a team. Another important topic we learned about is Corporate Social Responsibility which is “the responsibility of a firm, beyond its economic and legal responsibilities, to behave ethically and have a positive impact on its stakeholders.”Corporations need to show that they care about other things and not just about making profits. Although some may disagree it's not always all about the money. It may be difficult to fully inspect all factors but it's important to try and that responsibility for mistakes that may come along the way.

  1. Hopefully soon Amazon will realize that they make most of their money because of the warehouse workers and they will start to treat them ethically.
